Is it possible to own a dental hygiene office without having a dentist present?

I'm wanting to be a dental hygienest and I was wondering if I could open an office without a dentist. I think the laws vary from state to state, I'm in texas by the way.

Is it possible to own a dental hygiene office without having a dentist present?
Yes as long as you have a dentist to refer people to.
Reply:I am a dental hygiene therapist in the U.K but I presume the referral system is the same. Hygienists/and Therapists can own their own practices but must have a referring dentist who can do the examainations etc. as it is illegal to work without a prescription from a registered dentist. You should check with the governing dental body in the States and they should be able to give you all the correct information. Good Luck it's a good career!
