I had an erupted lower wisdom tooth extracted simply in the dental office over 4 days ago. Is it ok to smoke?

Hi mama:

You asked a reasonable question, I don't imagine you wanted to be preached to now did you?

In answer, 4 days has past, the bleeding should be well stopped so you should be fine as wine.

Don't draw on the cigarette too hard at first so as not to aggravate the wound.

Obviously if you are not sure, ask your dentist and I'm sure he/she will be ready to give you another lecture. heh.

Take care....hope you feel better.

no. please don't! you don't want to put nicotine into the extraction site, it will take longer to heal. if you must smoke you should try to cover the extraction site with gauze while smoking.
Reply:its not worth it..you could get dry sockets then you will be in so much pain you wont know what to do!! Dry socks hurt sooooo bad they have to go in and scrape where they cut the tooth out its horrible i got them from smoking when i got mine takin out.
Reply:I don't think you should smoke at all. it is very bad for you. it could damage your lungs. so please stop.
Reply:you shouldn't smoke anyway.. it damages your lungs, it wrecks your teeth, and i even heard that it can make hair grow on your tongue! so please stop
Reply:While I don't condone smoking under any circumstance I will tell you that you should give it at least a week before resuming your habit. Also it would be wise to avoid sucking on straws or drinking from pop bottles or cans. Any sucking pressure can dislodge the blood clot and it appears you already understand that consequence. Really good healing requires your body to use vitamins A%26lt;E%26lt;C%26lt;B%26lt;D and Zinc...Unfortunately, smoking deplets vitamin "C" almost as quickly as the body can absorb it....Consider taking a good multi-vitamin on a daily basis, it will do both your body and your teeth and gums a great deal of good. I wish you well.
Reply:Congratulations that you could wait 4 days. Let's face it you are a smoker and getting a tooth extracted is not going to make you stop. I know, because my husband did this. He's a smoker and he had his wisdom tooth extracted and he smoked maybe an hour after it was done. They tell you to make sure you have the gauze covering the extraction site. The hygienist said one man smoked immediately afterwards. So, if you're feeling well and not having any problems I would say it is ok to smoke. To make sure, call your dentist and ask. I'm just keeping it real. I hope you and my husband would stop smoking because YOU want to and not because you are forced to because of health problems or anything negative. Good Luck!
