im looking for a percentage breakdown of what should be spent, and on what, in a dental office in order for it to be considered profitable.
How much profit should a dental office make a year. And what kind of expenses does a dental office have.?
Each office profit is different. You have to figure out your monthly overhead (rent, electricity, water, supplies, employee salaries) then project how much you intend to make from there. I agree with the first answer, opening an office is hard to do. A lot of dentists who are fresh out of school like to join on to an open office as an associate, then try from there.
The problem with that is if the majority owner decides to sell, it is usually during a "down time" in the profit area. Location is also key: a free-standing practice has a higher rent, whereas a strip mall office can lose potential clients due to its location or general environment. (I have worked in both types of offices.)
The materials vary greatly as each doctor has certain materials that they prefer to work with versus the less expensive options. Patterson Dental Supplies offers good rates on quality products, for example.
The accounts that each doctor/office have are due at the end of each month, in general, and theat's when you really see how much money you have made, or lost.
You also have to figure in office supplies, computers, and cleaning. A lot of offices have a cleaning person/staff come in once every two weeks or so, it depends on the office. And then there's all the things you have to have to remain OSHA compliant, and that includes biohazard boxes, proper sterilization products, PPE. (personal protection equipment) There's lab coats, masks, and you have to decide if you want to provide scrubs for your staff, which allows you to make all employees dress alike appealing to a professional atmosphere.
Dentistry is an expensive field in which to get involved, though rewarding; think long and hard about your decision!
The best option would be to sign up with Mercer. It is a company that finds compatible dentists to work together and allows for successful "take-overs," or transfer of offices.
Reply:The most expensive expenses would be salaries and rent. My boss pay 2500 rent and im guessing around 6000 in employee's. Plus, materials and all sorts of stuff. utilites, insurances yada yada..............It is hard to open an office at first...........you need patients to pay for everyting too! main thing

Nedd a job in dental office!?
I'm currently looking for a job in the Kennesaw, Woodstock, Ga. area as Dental assistant. Anybody work in an office that needs a Dental assistant?
Nedd a job in dental office!?
Have you tried your local directory? Look there for a dental office, then call to see if they need any help.
Reply:If you are able to do lab work..Like make night-guards and bleaching trays let me know...We need a new dental tech..If you can, send me a message and I'll reply back with my fax number; so you can fax your resume.
It's not in the areas you mentioned...Ashford Dunwoody..
Reply:If you could come down to moutrie ga then you could find a job as a dental assistance because overhere there is a bunch of dental offices and they don'd have enough assistance so thy take too long to (more tha normal) assisting people so. also there is only one orthodonics and the treatment is onger because when you have to go to the dentist you have to wait like one month for your appointemnt then when you finish with the dentist you have to waite like another month for the orthidonic! and the reason why this is is because they dont have enough assistance!

What is sterilization log in dental office?
we are opening a dental clinic. delta dental required a sterilization log to have in the office.
is this log prepared by the office staff ?
What is sterilization log in dental office?
Yes. You need to be able to prove that you are properly sterilizing instruments just in case you are ever sued by a patient (for example, a patient could contract hepatitis %26amp; try to blame you for it). You would document loads run through your autoclave, stuff like that. Also, you need to do a spore test every so often. You would need to document doing those tests %26amp; what the results were.

I need MATURE EXPERIENCE MEDICAL /DENTAL OFFICE ASSISTANCE?
HI, I'm seeking for some informative info. to start a new career in the medical field. I'M THINKING ABOUT CALLING A MEDICAL OFFICE AND FINDING OUT WHAT TYPE OF INFO I CAN GET ,HOWEVER THIS IS A WEEKEND AND THEIR IS NOT AN OFFICE OPEN SO THIS IS WHY I'M ASKING ON THIS YAHOO ANSWER.ALSO SO ICAN TALK TO REAL LIFE EXPERINCE PEOPLe WHO HAVE ALREADY BEEN CERTIFIED.
Does anyone know what type of educational background you need to have to work in an medical office,or become a medical assistant/ Dental assistant. I also need to know if their is a certificate program thats inexpensive that I can take on line .
Do you think that if I take an online study program that a medial office will accept my diploma if I don't have that hands on learing experience. I just don't know if the hands on learning is as important. Cause I have a full time job and don't have time to be going part time so I'm trying to do something thats going to be very convienent for me ,and also benifit me
I need MATURE EXPERIENCE MEDICAL /DENTAL OFFICE ASSISTANCE?
Believe me, hands on is the best way to go..I have gone through the Medical Office Assistant program and am just finishing up the Office Systems Technology program to finish with my Associates Degree.
If I had not had all the hands on learning I wouldn't know what the heck I was doing. It's not as easy as it sounds to be an assistant to anyone. You have MAJOR responsibilities. And more than likely if something goes wrong it's your fault. You are basically the reason the office runs the way it will.
Don't cut yourself short by not getting the hands on training that you need.
PS) To Sammi~
Yes, Medical Assistants do have to go through certification on a yearly basis.
Reply:well, i work in a medical office and trust me you need the hands on training! wherther you work work front or back office.i dont know of any online classes but i took a class for 7 months. i know it seems long but it was worth it!!!
Reply:Dental and Medical Assistants aren't certified... there's a big difference between getting a Diploma and a Certification. My advice to you is to go to a community college or a school that guarantees certification. Or don't mess around at all with being an assistant... go to school and get your 4 year degree as a RN. You get paid more and they don't treat you like a slave as much as they do Assistants. Working at a hospital is much better than working at a regular doctor's office because... sometimes the staff... depending on how much education they have and their title... they can be very unprofessional.
If I would've known how bad it is to be a Medical Assistant... I would have never went to school to become one. It's a waste of money. Because sometimes they get people off of the streets... train them... and pay them as much or more than someone that had already went to school and got a diploma.
Don't waste your time or money going to schools that don't really care about your education and that only want your money. Go to a community college and become an RN. You won't regret it like I did.
I went to a trade school that rushed my education... had stupid teachers... and getting through my externship was awful. Just don't waste your money... go to a real school!!!!

In a Dental office position what would Hosting insurance mean?
There is a Dental office front desk position open that says you will need to do billing and Hosting insurance. What is that Hosting insurance?
In a Dental office position what would Hosting insurance mean?
I've been around the front-office world for a long time, and I've never heard of "hosting insurance." Could it be a typo for, "posting insurance" - as in posting payments to a patient ledger?
The other possibility is the office is a preferred provider for some insurance plans, but I've never heard the term "hosting" in that context.
Is this position in the USA?

If a dental office already started doing some work on your teeth (w/insurance).......?
But then you decide that you don't want to go there anymore, will your insurance still cover if you go somewhere else, or do you have to finish what they started at the dental office that you first went to??
If a dental office already started doing some work on your teeth (w/insurance).......?
That really depends on your insurance plan. Call your insurance company, explain your situation and why you want to switch dentists, and let them tell you how to go about doing it so that the costs remain covered. It could be as simple as they just need to know in advance!
Reply:i think you have to finish at the other office, but i really don't know, ask your dental office?!
Reply:The insurance should cover the rest of the work somewhere else. You might want to check with your provider to make sure you are going to a dr in the network, if you have that type of plan. Make sure you get your x-rays and records sent to the new dentist, b/c most likely, your plan will not cover a second set of x-rays. And they are not cheap.
Reply:It depends. If the dentist you are seeing now has billed the insurance company for the complete treatment then you would need to get a type of override. Usually the dentist gets paid in installments which they bill to the insurance so you would be able to see another dentist without problem. Your best bet is to contact your insurance company and ask them. It will take an hour at least so make sure you have a lot of free time
Reply:Call your insurer, but they shouldn't care as long as your new choice is also in their network.
Reply:I went thru the same situation that you are going thru, I choose a Dentist that worked with my Insurance co. but I was extremely dissatisfied with them and I went with another Dentist that I have to pay out of my own pocket and I have to fill out the paperwork and bill the Insurance co. myself. Check your policy out and see if you can change Dentist and check with the ''new'' Dentist to see if they work with your Insurance co.
Reply:Your best bet when dealing with an insurance company is to ask them and then get it in writing.
Reply:It will still cover the work. It probably won't pay for another Dr. exam until 6 months to 1 year. You might have to pay for that or it may be covered. You will need to get your x-rays transferred to your new dentist or copies of them sent. And yes, you do have the right to your x-rays and copies of treatments needed and treatments done/copy of records. You can always have a pretreatment filed after they examine you and figure out what needs to be fixed. They send info to your insurance about what needs you still have and the insurance will send you a letter in about 3-4 weeks saying how much they will pay and what your cost will be.
